Changes
by Mercedes Lackey
Daw, $25.95, 326 pp
Release Date: October 4, 2011

Changes is book three of the Collegium Chronicles, a Valdemar novel.

Mags is a Herald trainee at the new Collegium. Though his background of poverty and abuse set him apart from most trainees, he has his own circle of friends - Bear, a talented healer without a gift, Lena , a gifted bard who is ignored by her famous bard father, and Amily, the crippled daughter of the King’s Own Adviser and Spymaster to the King. The King’s Own has noted the same traits in Mags that made him the spymaster and master spy but the training was more dangerous than they knew. Agents of unknown origin with their own gifts see Mags and Amily as the key to destabilizing the Kingdom.

Mercedes Lackey is never boring. Her world-building draws the reader in and her character becomes part of your family. The adventure, both magical and mysterious, holds you spell-bound. What more can you ask of her fantasies except more of them, lots more. ~~ Pam Allan
