Dead Iron: The Age of Steam
by Devon Monk
Roc, $15.00, 337 pp
Release Date: July 5, 2011
Devon Monk is the author of the Allie Beckstrom series but Dead Iron is an unrelated stand-alone book.
Though the devisers have civilized the east with their devices, the frontier is still a battle between magic and the Strange. Cedar Hunt is a bounty hunter cursed with lycanthropy who carries the guilt of his brother's death. When a trio of miners offer the possibility that his brother is alive, he is not going to haggle about the price.
The price is a devise that may hold off the mortality of an ancient Strange, whose completion of plan may wipe out the world as they know it.
In a changing land, Cedar will have to count on guns, magic and guts to save his brother, his friends, and his soul.
Dead Iron is a winner. A cursed hero, great supporting cast fully developed, and a world that crosses westerns and steam punk with magic and machines and a plot that won't let you go Dead Iron is a collectable, I hope a series is coming and I wasn't even a steampunk fan. This is a must have. ~~ Pam Allan
