Jacqueline Carey
Grand Central Publishing, $14.99, 356pp
Release Date: November 22, 2011

This is a sequel to Santa Olivia.

After escaping military custody, Loup and her girlfriend Pilar have reinvented their lives in the disenfranchised town of Outpost 12 [Santa Olivia]. They find new careers as bodyguards for a British rock band.  Back in the United States , an investigation into Outpost 12 and the military cover up is lost when the key witness disappears. The citizens of Outpost 12 need a champion but if the pair step forward it could mean death or imprisonment. But if Loup and Pilar don't step forward, no one will.

Carey writes a tightly focused story of people with special powers who are different, in a story of love, friendship and hope in a disenfranchised world. The characters are well-drawn, the action tight which makes this a page turner that has to prised from the readers hands. Carey introduces us to the hidden strength that bides within us all. ~~ Pam Allan
