Star Corpsman Book One: Bloodstar
by Ian Douglas
Harper, $7.99, 351pp
Release Date: August 28, 2012
Bloodstar begins the Starcorps series by a prolific writer of space opera.

Navy Corpsman Elliot Carlyle joined the Fleet Marine Force to save lives and see the universe. But when Bravo Company’s Black Wizards are sent to Bloodstar they find another species with their eye on taking over by violent first contact. Bravo Company has to prepare to meet a vast enemy, while one dedicated medic could be the savior of the universe.

This is full of scientific explanations of future tech, but doesn't change the character of government or cults. Still, it makes a fun read with shades of coming-of-age as the medic finds his calling and romance [YA]. Enjoy. ~~ Pam Allan
