This book is part of the Esther Diamond series. While it probably helps to have read the previous novels in the series this book was enjoyable on its own.
Esther Diamond is a struggling actress who takes a job as a victim in an off-Broadway play, The Vampyre. She finds herself surrounded by fang-wearing vampire wannbe fans as well as anti-vampire protesters and, of course, the paparazzi. On top of that, the brooding lead actor claims he is a real vampire.
She can put up with all of that but when one of the lead actor’s groupies turns up dead, drained of all her blood, Esther becomes determined to help her co-star. With help from an old friend who happens to be a 350-year-old magician, Esther investigates while her sort-of ex-boyfriend, Detective Connor Lopez, tries to keep Esther from becoming the next victim. Throw in some real vampires and a cult of vampire hunters and you have a fast-paced adventure.
This was a great read. I devoured the book in two days and will be looking for others in the series. I enjoyed the characters and want to know more about them all. Recommended. ~~ Stephanie L Bannon
