Hitman: Damnation
by Raymond Benson
Ballantine, $10, 300pp
Release Date: October 30, 2012
This novel is a prequel to the story Hitman: Absolution, based upon a violent video game. Agent 47 is an assassin who works for the International Contract Agency. In this book he has a few targets: a Latin American crime lord, Himalayan mountain climbers, and an American terrorist named Cromwell, who is the head of a group called the New Model Army, and, most of all, a presidential candidate who owns a chain of American restaurants and belongs to the America First Party and his supporter, a leader in the Church of Will. There are a couple significant female characters: Diana Fernwood who is Agent 47's handler, and Helen, a church member who is a slight love interest for Agent 47. Most of all, like a video game, the story is about assassination, and the machinations of those who ply the trade. ~~ Mike Griffin
