Peacemaker
A Foreigner Novel
by C. J. Cherryh
Daw Books, 2013, 375pp
Published: April 2014

The title says it all, and if you thought war was the ultimate rush, wait ‘til you read how Bren Cameron wages diplomacy.

As if it weren’t enough to protect Cadger, the young heir to Thighbone-fiji’s holdings and responsibilities, he now has human children from the Starship Phoenix to keep from harm – and there is a determined opponent who intends a great deal of harm to everyone involved in the modernization of their traditional society. With cultural mores and strict codes of behavior for every interaction, in a world where loss of face can be worse than death, Cameron must be hyper-alert to every nuance if he is to keep his charges alive.

Not only do I love the intensity of these stories, I am intrigued by how Cherry continues to use science fiction to offer pointed, if veiled, commentary on current political and international situations.  ~~ Chris R. Paige
