Bob
by Wendy Mass & Rebecca Stead
Fiewel and Friends, $16.99, 208pp
Published: May 2018

Five years ago Livy and her family visited her grandmother in Australia.  Now they are coming back and Livy keeps thinking there is something important she should remember about that previous trip. It turns out she’s right.

Bob, a short, green creature dressed in a chicken suit has been waiting all those five years for Livy to come back, hiding in a closet where Livy told him to wait for her. While Livy forgot him while she was gone, Bob did not forget her or her promise to help him get home. Problem is he has no idea where he is from, what he is, or even if he has a family but now that Livy is back they will work together to solve those mysteries.

This is a delightful book. Although it is aimed at readers 8-12 I found it a quick, fun read. Chapters are told alternately from Bob and Livy’s point of view. I really wish I had had the final hard cover edition with illustrations as opposed to the advanced reader copy without them. I am sure they really enhance a wonderful story for children of all ages.
