Legends & Lattes
Legends & Lattes #1
by Travis Baldree
Tor, $17.99, 304pp
Published: November 2022

After a lifetime of bounties and bloodshed, Viv is hanging up her sword for the last time.

The battle-weary orc aims to start fresh, opening the first ever coffee shop in the city of Thune. But old and new rivals stand in the way of success - not to mention the fact that no one has the faintest idea what coffee actually is.

If Viv wants to put the blade behind her and make her plans a reality, she won't be able to go it alone.

But the true rewards of the uncharted path are the travelers you meet along the way. And whether drawn together by ancient magic, flaky pastry, or a freshly brewed cup, they may become partners, family, and something deeper than she ever could have dreamed.

*This new edition includes a very special, never-before-seen bonus story, 'Pages to Fill.'*

Viv was an orc mercenary but now she has decided to hang up her sword and open a coffee shop.  As she builds a new life in a new city she finds that the shop may not be all she was looking for and that maybe her old life is not as far behind her as she wants it to be.

The world here is rich, we have orcs, humans, dwarves, elves, and other races living in a society where their differences are no big deal. As Viv finds and creates her coffee shop, building a client base from those to whom coffee is unknown, she is also finding friendships with those working with her and maybe even the beginnings of a family.  We have a satisfying conclusion for Viv and the others though since this is listed as first in a series I am interested in what new adventures await Viv and her friends.

The included bonus story takes us back to Viv’s days as a mercenary and how she discovered coffee to begin with. Recommended ~~ Stephanie L Bannon
