Uglies Shay's Story
by Scott Westerfeld, Devin Grayson, and Steven Cummings
Del Rey, $10.99, 208pp
Release Date: March 6, 2012

Shay is a rebel in the future. She does not want a right-of-passage operation, Pretty, on her sixteenth birthday. But there are forces at work that she will have to choose- to being true to oneself or to be someone pretty.

This is part one of a series.

An interesting concept. Society wants everyone to be remade into a "Pretty" at sixteen. In other words, everyone will be made outside as a "Barbie/Ken" doll. Scary. Also, I do like the hover boards concepts. Recommended to right-of-passage readers. ~~ Jeffrey Lu
