“I will Not Die Alone” is quirky and darkly amusing, yet touching and a little sad. It's strangely uplifting and life affirming in the face of the end of the world. It's also a very quick read that calls one back to read it again a time or two.
Joe Bennett's illustrations are unique and thoughtfully playful, using anthropomorphic animals learning about the end of the world, reacting to it and then coming to terms with it. The animals both jar and ease the reader at the same time. They enhanced the reading experience, giving each character an individual personality.
If you know you're going to die, wouldn’t it be better knowing that you lived your best life, on your terms? If we’re going to go out, let us go out together, helping one another with love, compassion and total disregard for our differences. It's a great reminder to make the most of what time you have and to live life to its fullest.
I found this little gem a thought provoking book and enjoyed reading it a few times over. Dera White did a nice job with this story. ~~ Dee Astell
