Less a story and more an exploration of a theme, the colorful illustrations and rhyming text in this book show us that hope can be found in many unexpected places and moments of our lives. From learning to ride a bike to flying our first kite, hope keeps us inspired to keep reaching for our best lives. This book shows young and old alike how hope can be a flame or a spark just waiting for the reader to embrace it. The illustrations are very bright and colorful and help convey the flow of the theme well.
I read this book with my seven-year-old granddaughter, Paisley, and she really enjoyed the kindness and sharing shown by the little girl in the story at the beach to another girl whose sandcastle had gotten washed away, as well as the girl's brother when he lifted her up and helped her to take a shot at the basketball hoop. She also liked the little girl watching for relatives, then all the family members gathering for a big feast. We both loved the lyrical rhyming text and the realization of all the things that hope can be.
I think this is a nicely portrayed way to share hope with those little ones in your life and it's well worth a read. ~~ Dee Astell & Paisley Hernandez
