To Die Fur

The second of the Whiskey-Tango-Foxtrot paranormal mysteries, following A Taste Fur Murder (reviewed here), does not disappoint.

Deirdre “Foxtrot” Lancaster, is the administrative assistant to billionaire Zelda Zoransky, as well as the Guardian of the Graveyard, a pet cemetery on ZZ’s property that is a crossroads, allowing dead pets to visit their dead human owners. Along with her telepathic companions - reincarnated cat, Tango, and dead, shapeshifting dog, Whiskey - Foxtrot is again deep in a paranormal murder mystery.

When ZZ acquires a rare white liger she hosts one of her gatherings to decide where the liger shall ultimately live. Unfortunately, before the decision is made, one of the applicants murders Augustus, the liger. Foxtrot then has to discover the murderer, keep Augustus’ body from being stolen and - oh yes, prevent the pet graveyard from being destroyed by war between two feline gods, who both want Augustus to join them in the afterlife. With help from Tango, Whiskey, Augustus’ ghost and Ben, ZZ’s cook who is also a Thunderbird, Foxtrot does her best to live up to her task as Guardian of the Graveyard as well as help Augustus find happiness in his afterlife.

Augustus’ death is a sad event in the book but ultimately he has a happy ending. There is a wonderful bit about the “Little Red Dot” that every cat owner will love. The characters are being fleshed out even more, including some of the zoo animals and the banter between Tango and Whiskey is often priceless.

I am eagerly awaiting the third in the series, Marked Fur Murder, due March 31, 2015. ~~ Stephanie L Bannon
