When experienced homicide detective Casey Duncan first moved to the secret town of Rockton, she expected a safe haven for people like her, people running from their past misdeeds and past lives. She knew living in Rockton meant living off-the-grid completely: no cell phones, no Internet, no mail, very little electricity, and no way of getting in or out without the town council’s approval. What she didn’t expect is that Rockton comes with its own set of secrets and dangers.
Now, in A Darkness Absolute, Casey and her fellow Rockton sheriff’s deputy Will chase a cabin-fevered resident into the woods, where they are stranded in a blizzard. Taking shelter in a cave, they discover a former resident who’s been held captive for over a year. When the bodies of two other women turn up, Casey and her colleagues must find out if it’s an outsider behind the killings or if the answer is more complicated than that...before another victim goes missing.
Casey Duncan returns in another heart-racing thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author Kelley Armstrong
Rockton is an isolated, secret town in the Yukon populated by those who have a need to go totally off the grid - no phones, no Internet and no ability to leave town. Some are criminals and some are victims but all have reasons to leave civilization and go into hiding. Casey Duncan is fairly new to town, allowed in because of the need for a trained detective. While the sheriff is away, Casey and fellow deputy Will Anders go after an escaping resident who has fled to the forest. But a simple task turns complicated when a blizzard strikes forcing Will and Casey to take shelter in a cave where they find a woman, a former resident of Rockton long assumed dead, being held captive in the cave. After taking her back to Rockton and returning to search the cave for evidence they find two more bodies and come to the realization that they are looking for a serial killer who may be one of the locals, known as settlers and hostiles, or more troubling may be a resident of Rockton.
I am loving these books. The characters are interesting, especially as we learn more about their pasts. The concept of the town itself is intriguing. I have the next one in the series on my tablet and soon will be diving back into this world. This is a wonderful series and is highly recommended. ~~ Stephanie L Bannon
