Buster Moon is riding high on success, with his theatre productions continuously being sold out shows. And he has a dream: having his company perform in Redshore City.
When a talent scout informs him that he doesn't have what it takes to make the big time, he sets out to prove her wrong. Buster talks his performers into sneaking into a talent audition with Jimmy Crystal, who is a difficult promoter to impress. Act after act is shot down until it comes down to Buster and crew, and within seconds they are buzzed off the stage, but, while heading out, Gunter starts talking about his idea for a show and Jimmy overhears and wants to know more.
While improvising Gunter's concept, they start singing a song by rock legend Clay Calloway, who hasn't been seen in fifteen years. When Jimmy asks if they have rights to the song, comunication gets out of the realm of reality, leaving Jimmy assuming they can get Calloway involved in the production. Which prompts him to produce the show, with the warning that, if Moon crosses him or makes him look bad, he will throw him off the roof of his tower.
From there on out, it's a race against the clock to get the script written and the sets designed and built, as well as lead a hunt for the elusive, reclusive rocker, Clay Calloway. When Porsha, Jimmy's daughter, insists on being the star of the show, against Buster's wishes, he realizes that maybe Jimmy's warnings may be more than just threats.
Along the way to getting the production rolling, members of the crew will find inner strength, build new friendships and reaffirm family ties, and yes, even find love.
As a grandmother who has to sit through a lot of kids movies on a daily basis, many over and over again, it's refreshing when I can actually enjoy watching them, even after the tenth or so viewing.
I liked Sing, but I think I prefer Sing 2 more, especially because of the depth of development they gave to some of the characters. The soundtrack is worth listening to and the visuals are appealing for all ages.
My favorite scene is with Johnny doing his song and dance number in the show. Its tempo and beat stays with one, so much so that the music still pops into my head from time to time unexpectedly. ~~ Dee Astell
