To save the world, Janet has to sacrifice herself and go to the Quantum Realm, but she can’t return. For the next thirty years, Hank and Hope, her husband and daughter, have struggled to create an invention that will allow them to search for and rescue her. That was the set up for Paul Rudd to become The Antman and it is the opening scene of Antman and The Wasp.

The next scene is Scott, the Antman,(Paul Rudd) struggling to entertain his daughter. He’s finishing two years of house arrest for his part in Captain America: Civil War. If he leaves the house, he could face 20 years of prison.

He only has a few days left and then he’ll be free, so he's being very careful. But then he has a strange vision/dream that’s so disturbing, he contacts Hank who promptly sends Hope to kidnap him. Hank has realized his long-lost wife is using Scott to make contact from the Quantum Realm. Soon Scott agrees to become the Ant Man and go to the Quantum Realm in partnership with The Wasp. This puts Scott in danger of 20 years of prison for leaving the house. That provides a running tension throughout the movie. To add to the fun, Bad guys want Hank’s invention plus a villainous “ghost” appears and causes trouble. What is especially bad is they don’t know why it’s after them.

The movie now gets very complicated with lots of action. Even Scott’s suit gives him trouble since it keeps malfunctioning and changing his size. It's hard to be inconspicuous on a busy street if you're the size of a giant!

The action centers around Antman and the Wasp. The Wasp is Hope. The movie could be subtitled Fathers and Daughters. There’s Scott and his daughter; Hank and his daughter and it turns out the “ghost” had a father too. All these family relations actually add texture and feeling to the action. Scott's daughter tries to cover for his absence. The Wasp wants to find her mother in the Quantum Realm.

The Quantum Realm, when one of them gets there, is a really interesting place. I liked the tardigrades. Tardigrades in real life are nicknamed water bears. They are microscopic critters that seem indestructible. They are a great menace since they are huge monsters to a person. I just think it’s a cool idea to have them as menacing giant monsters who seem very hungry.

So the whole movie is simultaneously a great adventure plus light-hearted fun plus some very touching moments. I haven’t even mentioned Michael Pena with his wonderfully comic moments and Laurence Fishburne as a former collegue. Nor have I mentioned the overriding romantic problem of whether Scott and Hope can resolve their issues left over from the previous movies. Or the tension of whether Janet can be rescued and the problem of the Ghost or the problem of whether Scott can avoid twenty years in prison.

And those are only the major plotlines! This is a very rich movie that gives you full entertainment value.

There are two extra scenes at the end in the credits and they suddenly tie us into the Avengers: Infinity War movie. I’ve seen speculation that Antman is going to be very important in the next Avengers, but we’ll have to wait and see.
