A Dragon of Black Glass
Moonfall #3
by James Rollins
Tor; $32.99; 583 pp
Published: February 2025

This is Book Three in Rollins’ the Moonfall series.

The stalwart Nyx, her powers and abilities growing stronger, is aided by her companions aboard the air ship Fyredragon. They have left the Frozen Wastes and are headed east to the unbearable heat to discover the other turubaya a pair to the one discovered by Nyx and company in the Frozen Wastes.

The turubaya are crucial to saving their Urth from Moonfall. The moon comes closer and closer to decimating the planet and will do so if the ancient machineries are not rediscovered and bound together to stop the moon and get Urth to rotate once again.

The tale is loaded with double-dealing courtly machinations and power struggles, battles and skirmishes. And of course there are dark forces at work who want the ancient androids that are helping Nyx thwart the destruction of their world. And because the moon is moving ever closer vicious earthquakes are destroying cities in the midst of warfare. It is freaking chaos out there. But Nyx and the others of the Fyredragon find unexpected allies and more complicated devices to add to getting Urth back on its rotation.

Rollins imagination is in full flight here. His descriptions of the land and people are spectacular and really keep your attention glued to the story. It’s a great read, the kind you can devour in a week, or even a few days.

But once they confront the dragon of the title, we find out there is still another book to come. ~~ Sue Martin
