If Octobriana were real I think we all know what she'd be doing right now, as the "Spirit of the October Revolution" in Russia. She's my favorite public-domain comic-book superhero, a commie wonder woman possibly created as a hoax on Soviet underground samizdat literature. You can read all about it in her Wikipedia article besides googling her. Over the years, new comics or books on her appear, and this little story-text collection is a worthy addition. As the Amazon description says, the stories cover "a communist clone, a nazi dinosaur, a capitalist demon and a TV psychic. All this plus: Octobriana versus the Claw!" Yes, that old public-domain villain from the 1940s. And there is another arch-villain who frames these stories-arcs, making a great speech at the end: "The Hunger Games”, “V for Vendetta”, heck, even Star Wars are effectively Octobriana-Lite … by investing in these stories and all related merchandise, they are directly supporting the very system that they think they are rebelling against." Wait, what? Was that a critique of fandom and consumerism? I promise that's the only killjoy moment in it at all. You can blip over that and enjoy this new contribution to a great mythic character! Gosh, I really want an Octobriana cosplay girlfriend … . ~~ M.L. Fringe
