If you are a fan of Hearn's Iron Druid series, then you are familiar with the faithful Irish Wolfhound, Oberon. According to the author, Oberon is nearly as popular with fans as the main character, Atticus. I suspect that is what prompted his charming short stories with the point-of-view from Oberon. In addition to this title, the author has provided other short stories called Oberon's Meaty Mysteries; also quite amusing and entertaining. Squirrels feature heavily, of course.
Atticus has developed the routine of providing a story to his hounds whenever they have to have a bath. These little stories come out of his very long-lived experiences. So part of each story is Oberon recounting the why of having the bath and often the reason for the context of each story. Atticus ends up discussing issues arising from the story and it's amusing to hear Oberon's interpretation and evaluation.
I doubt anything in here violates canon but it was entertaining to get little snippets of Atticus' life that didn't directly impact any of the major novels. And, as always, I love hearing it in Oberon's voice.
The most fun one of the batch is the only one that had nothing to do with a bath. It resolves a mystery that Oberon alluded to back in Book 3 of the Iron Druid series; giving the author a little fun and a chance to wrap up part of that story.
It was worth the money and I'm always glad to contribute to Hearne's mortgage. ~~ Catherine Book
